Opening Live Tour
WMDF also features a kick-off tour in the southern Hokkaido ("Donan") and the northern Honshu ("Tohoku") region around the start of June. The live tour publicises the WMDF main event and embodies the "Long Now, Big Here" theme by bringing forward the WMDF start date and by expanding the performance area across the local region. The 2009 OLT featured Hinokiya (traditional and modern Japanese drumming), "Tonfa & Taimin" (Taiwanese traditional music), "Chi Burugood & Miho" (Mongolian bato harp), and "Percussion Units" (African drummmers). For 2010, the five-piece band "Deneb" joined us from the Czech Republic, and in 2011 "Imanuera" came from New Zealand.
