We remember the artists and audiences who have visited us from around the world, and the way that lives have been changed. We look forward to witnessing and taking part in the future stories of those we have encountered in the past.<\/p>\n<table><caption>2025, WMDF 018<\/caption>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4466 size-thumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wmdf.org\/wpms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2025WMDF-18-Hearts.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"294\" \/>With two years to go until our 20th anniversary, this 18th Edition was themed as &#8220;heart&#8221; for our focus on picking out the essentials to concentrate on for the upcoming celebrations. First-time participant countries\/regions Madagascar (<strong>MDG<\/strong>), Serbia (<strong>SRB<\/strong>), South Africa (<strong>ZAF<\/strong>), and Tibet (<strong>CN-XZ<\/strong>). A raft of crowd-pleasing ticketing updates spread the event &#8220;heart&#8221;, from the sharing-friendly &#8220;Sponsor Pass 3&#8221; and &#8220;Sponsor Pass 7&#8221; advance purchases, to the late-entry &#8220;Starry Skies Pass&#8221;, student discounts, and free drinks for early arrivals. WAON &#8220;Hokkaido Isan&#8221; collaboration continued, with award for collaborative work creating cultural spaces in Minecraft at our &#8220;WakuFes&#8221; kids festival. Expanded use of &#8220;Jewel Box&#8221; red-brick warehouse interior with installations and shadow puppet theater performances, and showcased local crafts with &#8220;heart bench&#8221; installation. &#8220;Out of the Box&#8221; event tie-up collaboration, plus an Outreach public performance for the Mayor at Hakodate City Hall, and a first collaboration with Tsutaya, who hosted performances and also WMDF&#8217;s video compilation on their giant wall screen. We welcomed new primary sponsors Kasumigaseki Captial, Genten, and Lover Soul. Operationally, staff &amp; artists joined the fun of the Mogu Mogu Festival with our new coupon catering system, and we continued refining our low-code event administration tools, auto-producing our bilingual main event signage for both booths and artists. Worked on summarising our \u201csmart festival\u201d experiences in an extended paper, to share progress.
