Spinning tradition into motion

Komatan is a professional spinning-top performer who brings together everyday string-wound toy tops, traditional Edo kyoku-goma, and chongake-goma, a style from western Japan. Blending these skills with juggling and kendama, he has developed a performance style all his own — fast, playful, powerful, and delicately controlled. After travelling as a street performer through more than 20 countries, he began performing in Japan in 2020, and now appears at festivals and events both in Japan and overseas.
