“memu earth lab” prototypes new forms of experimental infrastructure for various kinds of grounded research. A laboratory affiliated with The University of Tokyo, they draw inspiration from their Memu Open Research Campus, lying in the southeast of the Tokachi Plain.
With a focus on grounding research in local contexts and everyday practices, they create enriching experiences, foster new approaches and insights, and ultimately aim to reach new definitions of research and learning. Working in various mediums, they have developed a repository of resources for reinterpreting Memu and its surroundings. WMDF is delighted to showcase their reflective experiences in our first installation in the Chara red-brick warehouse, a new addition to the Motomachi Park festival layout in 2024.
