Soulful stories woven through kora and song
Sydney-based singer-songwriter and kora player Miriam Lieberman creates intimate, uplifting music that brings together contemporary Australian folk songwriting and the rich resonance of West African musical traditions. Her performances blend soulful vocals, intricate kora playing, guitar, and storytelling, drawing audiences into songs shaped by nature, connection, motherhood, transformation, and belonging. Miriam’s deep connection with West African music grew through studying the kora in Mali and Guinea, including with master musicians such as Toumani Diabaté. Returning to Australia, she developed a distinctive sound that weaves rhythmic and melodic influences from West Africa into poetic, emotionally direct songs. A returning WMDF artist, Miriam now comes to Hakodate as a solo performer, sharing music that is warm, transportive, and deeply human.
