Hakodate Minyo Circle, Hakodate

Min’yō melodies connecting past and present

The Hakodate Minyo Circle uses vocals, shamisen, taiko drums, and the refined tones of shakuhachi to present the richness and depth of Japan’s traditional min’yō (folk song) culture.

Their repertoire is broad, ranging from local songs of southern Hokkaido to iconic pieces like the Esashi Oiwake and Hokkai Bon Uta. Committed to preserving the heritage of folk music, the group strives to create performances that transcend generations and regions.

At WMDF, don’t miss their special appearance on the Hub Stage, featuring live Bon dance music and a guest appearance by a national champion Esashi Oiwake vocalist.
