Strings and percussion on a cosmic journey of sound
Polaris is a musical duo featuring Miho, a batokin (horsehead fiddle) performer and composer, and Hitoshi Maeda, a drummer and percussionist. The group takes its name from the North Star, symbolizing direction and harmony. Their original compositions are inspired by nature, ancient myths, and encounters from their travels, weaving together rich musical narratives.
Among their works is a performance combining original music and animation to depict the Native American legend of the White Buffalo — a tale of balance and coexistence that aligns with their artistic vision.
Miho studied with State First-Class Performer Chi Bulugur and was recognized by Living National Treasure Chi Borag. She has performed widely, including on national television and at international events.
Jin Maeda grew up immersed in traditional festival rhythms. A member of the percussion ensemble Funcussion, he is an endorsed artist for Yamaha Drums, Zildjian, and aspr.
We are excited to share their luminous blend of rhythm, storytelling, and spirit under the northern stars of Hakodate.
