Time Flies. Voices Remain.
Tempvs Fvgit return to WMDF from Corsica, the island in the Mediterranean whose chants carry centuries of memory, devotion, struggle, and celebration. Their name means “time flies,” but their music invites us to listen differently: to voices that move deliberately through history, linking old traditions with new artistic life.
Founded in Bastia, the historic port city of northern Corsica, Tempvs Fvgit are a contemporary polyphony group rooted in the island’s sacred and secular vocal traditions. Their repertoire draws on Corsican canti di internu — a cappella songs shaped by gatherings, rural life, and the defence of language and identity — while opening those traditions to modern performance, collaboration, and creation.
Since their first visit to Hakodate in 2012, Tempvs Fvgit have continued to perform and lead workshops in Corsica and abroad, including collaborations with the Grotowski Institute, ZAR Theatre, and artists in Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy. Recent projects such as Da Caminu, In Absentia, Ex Tenebris, and ORA explore memory, absence, continuity, and transformation, treating tradition not as something frozen, but as a living path.
Their return to Japan is also a renewal of the ties between our island cultures: an embodied reminder that the songs we create together endure and transcend the passage of time.
