Garage Chanson Show, Tokyo

Theatrical vocals, bold accordion, avant-garde chanson energy!

Revisiting WMDF for their second appearance, Garage Chanson Show is a captivating duo that redefines the boundaries of chanson music. Comprising Koshi Yamada and Yoshiaki Sato, the pair strips away the bourgeois elements traditionally associated with chanson, emphasising its raw, and sometimes even deviant aspects. Their performances are an unabashed revelation of human imperfections, laid bare on stage in a manner that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Koshi Yamada, a multifaceted artist with a background in rock and theatrical performances, brings an unrestrained vocal power to the duo. His journey in music has seen him traverse from rock band frontman to solo artist, and eventually to forming this innovative duo in 2001. Yoshiaki Sato, an accordion virtuoso trained under the esteemed Daniel Mille in Paris, complements Yamada’s intensity with his unique and genre-defying sound. Together, they create an avant-garde blend that pays homage to traditional accordion music while challenging its conservative conventions.

Their collaborative effort began serendipitously in Paris, a city rich in artistic heritage. Despite their reverence for European culture, Garage Chanson Show injects a subversive, almost mischievous twist into their music, reflecting their complex relationship with the genre. Their performances are a bold, avant-garde spectacle that keeps audiences enthralled, eager for the next unfiltered moment of artistic expression.
